Aw, she is new?   PRIMARK   February 7 th , 2023     A girl must look her best     Aw, she is new? Was the question asked as Ama was told a fellow Nigerian was in Northern Ireland. She had gone on to take my number and I Her's. We met at the bus stop and Ama took me to a shopping mall called Primark. I shall talk about “Ama and Nana ” someday,   Today let me introduce you to my favorite mall in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Primark.                                                                  Primark   You see, the very first statement Ama made when we got inside Pri...

Journey with me

February 4, 2023

to be new is to be bold

Have you ever felt a feeling, one born not out of fear but a fascinating blend of nostalgia and pain and yes, hope. The day she left the home place where her country folks dwelled.. she felt this, alongside a true anticipation for this new phase she was about to walk wide-eyed into. She left... oh man she really left! The absolute boldness!. It's giving Lioness, it's giving courageous, it's giving Nigerian lol because how do we do this? She traveled miles across countries to another continent to get a master’s degree in Marketing. The journey so far, the people, the places, the cultural shocks, the food, the coffee, I cannot particularly wait to tell you about my coffee experience in Northern Ireland Lol. I am eager to tell these stories, as I reckon you can already sense lol, hopefully, you are eager to read them. I want to do this authentically with love and importantly I do not want to bore you. Hi my name is Nekki and I am SHE, welcome to my blog🌹.

The Umbrella Street

As she walks slowly, somewhat frustrated, tired, cold, and hungry she was beginning to wonder how a map could be so annoying, why do I  keep getting lost in this city? Didn’t the map say to turn left? Don’t I know what left is any more or has the cold frozen some brain cells because how did I get here?

How did I get to this beautiful place? I asked myself as I stood in awe with dreamy eyes beholding the ‘Rainbow umbrellas’

Lost but found; the rainbow umbrella

The rainbow umbrella was commissioned in 2021 by a famous Belfast pub or bar as we say in Nigeria, called The Duke of York accompanied by a show titled “No rain, No Rainbow”. 2020 was a tough year all over the world; ‘the year of the Pandemic’ but also the year of Hope. This was the narrative of the show as the rainbow umbrella lights were turned on at the end of the display, the imagination is just lovely!

Chairs, there were chairs. It was worth sitting down and watching for a moment. "Have you ever seen the rain, coming down on a sunny day?" in Nigeria yes lol, oh I've seen that a lot, we even have a song for it "rain dae fall sun dae shine all my people run away, me me I watch and pray"  I laughed out loud as I read the inscription and remembered that song.

I went back the next day to see what it was like during the day. The lights were on, it was still beautiful but obviously made for the night, made for the dark. It didn't compare, It couldn't.

I had passed this route before in broad daylight I am certain, albeit probably in a haze for I must have been lost again to have been there in the first place lol.... but not yesterday, for though lost indeed, she found her way to the beautiful Umbrella street.

  1. New journeys are filled with uncertainties that only the bold can take on. You're off on a positive start and I hope your optimism takes you places as you explore.

These pictures are so badass, and yes the umbrella street was made for the night. Looking forward to more stories 😀
